Water Update
Water Update:

Several area children have become ill with the e coli 0157 bacteria.  The
0157 is one of many different strains of e coli  We have been accused of
making these children sick through our well water.

Our first and most important thing that we would like to do is thank the
Lord Jesus for the healing of all the children who got sick, no matter
where they got ill.

Why we don’t think it came from our well:

1.        E coli is common in water.  E coli 0157 has only been found a
handful of times ever in drinking water.

2.        E coli 0157 was never found in our water despite a whole series of
tests done by the Division of Natural Resources and the Health
Department.  These tests were done over the course of 5 days prior to
any chlorine being added to the well

3.        E coli 0157 likes a water temperature of 98 degrees.  Our well is
over 700 feet deep.  The water is 55 degrees.

4.        In the most famous case of 0157 in drinking water in Ontario
Canada 2500 of the 5000 residents of the town became ill.  50% of the
population was affected.  In the other famous case again 50% of the
town was affected.

5.        Only 15 out of hundreds who drank our water were affected.  If the
e coli 0157 was in our water we should have had 200 sick kids.

6.        93% of our customers our girls.  The majority of them are 3-5 yr.
olds.

7.        4 out of the 5 confirmed cases we have been made aware of are 7-
10 yr old boys.

8.        9 out of 10 should have been 3-5 yr old girls.

9.        E coli 0157 is supposed to affect the very young and old first.

10      Our family lives in the facility in an upstairs apartment.  We drink,
cook with, shower with… the water every day.  None of us got sick.  If the
e coli 0157 was in our water at least 3 of the 6 of us should have.

What we have done:

1.        We have added a UV sterilization system to kill any possible
sources of E coli coming from our well.  The Health Department and the
Division of Natural Resources have tested the water inside our building
after the installation of the UV sterilization system and found the water to
contain no E coli.

2.        We have chlorinated our well multiple times with the approval of
the DNR following instructions given to us by the Health Department.

3.        We have removed our drinking fountain from the wall and replaced
it with bottled water.

4.        We have turned off all of the showers with public access.

5.        We have complied with every request the DNR and Health
Department have made up to this point to the best of our abilities.

Where we think the e coli 0157 came from:

We believe that one or more infected boys attended a function at our
facility and cross contamination occurred.  This cross contamination
more than likely originated in a boys bathroom.

What we would like to do:

We would like to install a permanent chlorination system as an added
precaution despite the fact that we don’t believe the contamination came
from our well.  The DNR has taken legal action to prevent this.  Instead
they want to take apart our well and try and find something wrong with it
to prove they were “right” all along.  This would prove nothing.  It would
only mean that we would be completely without water until they finished
their “experiment”.  They are not willing to guarantee that the well will still
even work when they are finished with their “experiment”.  We have no
choice but to take legal action to prevent this.
